Purpose
The survey’s purpose is to determine the opinions, attitudes, and values of senior online users worldwide. In addition to online data, some data will be gathered from hard-copy surveys distributed by select senior-related publications, International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing (IAHSA) members, and professionals in senior-related fields—in order to maximize response. The online survey also will shape a better understanding of senior internet usage worldwide. Internet usage has grown rapidly in recent years. The universe of online users and, in this case, of senior online users has grown to the extent that it is considered a subgroup of importance and worthy of individual study.

Methodology
Access to the survey is limited to persons 50 years of age and older. Respondents are first asked to type in their birth year. Survey access is permitted only if the respondent keys in 1949 or earlier. By nature of its translations, the survey targets seniors who understand the following languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese. The majority of responses are expected fromt he English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese language bases. Despite the distribution of hard-copy versions of the survey, the vast majority of responses are expected to originate from the internet site, or through links to the site.

Respondents connect directly to our survey website. One of the distinct advantages of online research is that it’s done at the participant’s convenience, thus respondents will have access to the site 24 hours a day—whenever they are online. Brooks Adams has utilized a multi-form survey which presents questions on different pages (forms). Using this process, the data are saved when the respondent clicks the “continue” button at the bottom of each page. The advantages of the multi-form online format are as follows:

1. Permits skip logic and question-specific data verification.
2.
Allows pacing so the user doesn’t face the entire task at once.
